Dating etiquette

Is it worth waiting for the other person to write first? I know that theoretically this is supposed to be my role. But can I possibly be said to be myself if I do that? Surely I only want to be with someone who can take me the way I am. Maybe I need to change, or at least choose which is more important: personal integrity or finding a partner. [sigh]

    Some questions are timeless...at least I assume the ancient Greeks were asking the first move question.

    Somewhere in popular chick lit designed to basically help women feel better about the men who don't call them back it's been said that one should wait for the other person to write first (or talk first or call first or whatever).

    Having been someone who's chased and someone who's waited... neither option worked very well. What actually *did* work was something in between. I didn't take much initiative... but I was never kept waiting, either.
